The Mission Behind The Magic

The Commonplace is a collective of classically educated artists and writers who desire to counter the convoluted American dream through the study of literature and art. 
Begun December of 2020, after a discussion on the dying art of Commonplace Book Journaling, inspiration struck fiercely. We realized that we don't want to live in a world of superficial fluctuations...but want things to matter. We want to counter a society that embraces trends, fads, and trivial pursuits, only focusing on the temporary, and hold on to things that matter in the long run. That’s why we created The Commonplace -- a small corner where old things matter, new ideas are discovered, opinions are formed, and minds are cultivated -- all for the sake of being different. We have a team of talented writers, poets, illustrators, and artists who all have the same mission -- to be different. We, a team of creators, exist because we desire to sow seeds of life and truth in the garden of the mind. It sounds cliche, but if we can show just one mind to look for the beauty in life and cherish truth, then all the planning, all the designing, all the technical difficulties, all the ink smears, torn papers, and snapped erasers were worth it.
